Interview with the Creators of Memoring Phone Guestbook

How long have you been together, and how did you meet? Could you share a bit about your journey together?

We met in the fall of 2018 at a mutual friend’s birthday party, and it’s no exaggeration to say that from the moment we saw each other, we became inseparable, like a walnut and its shell. :) Just two months later, we moved into our beloved home together. In the summer of 2021, we fulfilled a long-time dream and went on a road trip to Italy in a campervan. It remains the most memorable trip of our lives because that’s when the proposal happened, in the Italian mountains. In the fall of 2022, we had our wedding, which also marked the beginning of our joint venture (then called Phone Guestbook)—although at the time, we had no idea what exciting and challenging path we were embarking on together.

If you had to describe each other in three words, what would you say?

Kope: Maja is dedicated, creative, full of life.
Maja: Kope is committed, humorous, big-hearted.

How did the idea for MEMORING come about, and how was the first model created?

Every wedding has a guestbook, but we wanted something more lasting than a paper guestbook, as we consider our relationships with others to be extremely important in our lives. During our search, we discovered that audio phone guestbooks had started to appear in America, which we really liked, but they weren’t available in Hungary yet. So, we decided to create something similar, but even more special. We acquired a beautiful antique phone from an antique dealer and began transforming it with the help of our family. After extensive planning and tinkering, the first phone guestbook equipped with a camera, capable of recording video messages, was born. The first model made its debut at our wedding. :)

Where did the brand name Memoring come from?

We initially called the product Phone Guestbook, but since the term audio guestbook or voice-recording guestbook later became associated with this concept in Hungary, we had to switch to a more unique name. We combined the English words "memory" and "ring," which gave birth to the name MEMORING.

What motivated you to develop a wedding accessory into a full-fledged product?

Our motivation came from the heart: we were so enriched by the invaluable video messages from our wedding with Memoring that we decided we wanted to share that joy with others. Once we realized the product’s potential, it was clear that we wanted to develop it further and turn it into a complete product, allowing us to provide the best possible service to people.

How do you balance working together and your personal life? How has working together impacted your relationship?

Honestly, we’re still figuring out the balance, as Memoring currently fills most of our days with the time and energy invested in it. During the summer season, it’s common for us to work from morning till late night, day after day. But now, we’re making conscious efforts to separate work time from personal life in small steps, and our new office has been a big help in this. However, working together has added a whole new dimension to our relationship—we’ve gotten to know each other better and figured out how to work effectively as a team, supporting, teaching, and inspiring each other. While there are challenges, reaching our shared goals has brought us even closer together and deepened our bond, for which we’re truly grateful.

Is there a memorable experience or moment from your business journey that stands out?

Many moments have left a lasting impression on us, but to mention a few:

When we received our first booking.
When a Hungarian couple our age living in Romania contacted us, saying they’d be happy to work with us. They now manage our expansion in Romania and have become dear friends. :)
When we were shortlisted in the top 3 for the “Discovery of the Year” category at the 2023 Hungarian Wedding Gala.
And of course, every single positive feedback, kind word, and Google review is truly memorable for us.

How would you describe the essence of MEMORING to those who haven’t heard of it yet?

Simply put, Memoring is a transformed antique phone that serves as a 2-in-1 photo and video guestbook. In reality, Memoring is much more than that: it provides the opportunity for important moments of events to be captured in a genuine, heartfelt way. Guests can not only take photos but also leave heartfelt video messages, enriching the occasion with lasting, personal memories—all in a simple format, without filters or templates.
